North Avenue Education

As discussed in my January Blog, one thing especially on the minds of many juniors in the class of 2022 is how to best approach ACT and SAT prep and planning in light of the unknowns for their application cycle.

I am advising students to prep AS IF they will be taking a test this spring so they are prepared.

Additionally I am hearing over and over from students that on line school is not the same and overall just feels harder.

Harder to manage time, harder to build connections with teachers, harder to work as a group with peers, and on and on and on.

One local partner in this quest for a healthy approach to testing as well as building study and academic skills in this era of virtual schooling is North Avenue Education.

Founder and Director Scott Clyburn says:

“For the coming admissions cycles, it’s going to be more important than ever for students to demonstrate resilience and academic independence. In the absence of test scores, colleges will be looking more closely at the types of classes students opt to take as well as how they adapt to the disruption to conventional coursework. Students who show they’re prepared for advanced coursework, which often involves self-directed learning, will stand out. And that’s where mentorship with an academic coach can be immensely valuable – not only as a support through this uncertain season, but in the long-term as well.”

Like me, NAE does not believe in a “one size fits all” approach, understanding  that each student is unique and each support plan needs to be individualized to bring out the best in that student.

NAE offers SAT and ACT prep, as well as College Essay, Study Skills, and Academic support, and offers one-on-one, group, and on line options.

Academic coaching and tutoring services include study skills and organization, in both middle school and high school subjects, all supported by expert and credentialed staff.

And they hand-write their Christmas cards and thank you notes, which is a fun and classy touch~

It is reassuring to know that this kind of partner resource is out there and waiting to offer skillful and mindful support!
